The Lake of Lucerne ("Vierwaldstättersee") with its unique jig-saw puzzle shape and the marvelous mountain landscape around it is a region of great historical importance and one of the most visited areas of Switzerland. It is considered the birthplace of the Swiss nation as well as a traditional focal point of tourism. You will be guided to some highlights of this world-renowned region. Monday, 21 June
Travel to Mount Rigi (1800) by boat and cogwheel railway. Lunch on top
(Rigi-Kulm) and easy hike to Rigi-Stafelhöhe. Back to Lucerne by train and boat.
Tuesday, 22 June
Morning: Guided tour of downtown Lucerne. Museum of modern arts, Lion Monument,
old town. Wednesday, 23 June
"On the tracks of Schiller's Wilhelm Tell". Tell is the mystic hero of Switzerland's
founder days in the 13th century, made immortal by Schiller's famous drama, first
played at Weimar 200 years ago, on 17 March 1804. Revive the old day on a whole-day
trip by coach to the sites of Tell's heroic deeds: the Hollow Lane where he finally
shot Gessler, Altdorf where he was forced by Gessler to shoot an apple from the
head of his son, his birthplace Bürglen and the Tellsplatte, where he jumped from
the boat of the cruel prefect in a storm. Thursday, 24 JuneMorning: Visit of the glass factory at Hergiswil: View handcraft glass blowing at the big oven, see an animated show of the history of glass blowing in the Lake of Lucerne region, blow your own glass sphere, buy your favourite item at the shop.
